Bachata comes from the Dominican Republic, where it emerged in the 1960s as guitar-based music about love and heartbreak. Once dismissed as music of the working class, it gained mainstream popularity in the 1990s and 2000s thanks to artists like Juan Luis Guerra, Aventura, Romeo Santos and Prince Royce. Today it's danced in Latin clubs and socials worldwide.
