The ballroom Rumba has its roots in Afro-Cuban music and dance, especially the Cuban son and bolero. It arrived in the U.S. in the 1930s and was later refined in Europe into the International Latin Rumba. Its hallmark is "Cuban motion," a natural hip action created by bending and straightening the knees.
