What is East Coast Swing?

East Coast Swing grew out of the Lindy Hop, the high-flying swing dance of 1930s Harlem. In the 1940s, dance studios such as Arthur Murray simplified the Lindy into a six-count pattern that was easier to teach and dance on crowded floors. The result became known as East Coast Swing, and it remains one of America's favorite social dances.
